Ask anyone who knows me and they'll tell you that my life has always involved animals. As a child I drove my parents crazy bringing home every orphaned or injured animal that crossed my path. When I announced I was entering the veterinary field it came as no surprise to anyone! I spent 15 years working as a vet tech and loved (almost) every minute of it. During those 15 years, I adopted my first golden retriever, “Chivas”. He was nine months old and had never known life outside his previous home’s kitchen and a ten foot chain. He was 90 pounds of bad dog with a capital “B” and he led me straight to the obedience ring. I had so much fun training him that I eventually began teaching in both private and group settings. I had been bitten by the training bug! Obedience led to agility and finally to raising and training dogs to guide the visually impaired. After raising and training five dogs for the seeing eye I needed a new challenge and that led me to train a dog to be a service dog to the physically disabled. I have also worked with dogs in stage productions, TV commercials and instructional videos. I believe that every dog can be a good dog it just takes a little patience and understanding. Each of my personal dogs have been certified therapy dogs, are trained in basic obedience and agility and a few of them have appeared in television commercials over the years.
I loved working in the veterinary field and training dogs but needed something that allowed me a little more flexibility. I couldn’t imagine myself not working with animals in some capacity or another. I had quite a few clients looking for someone to care for their pets at home, so I started Whiskers Wags & Walks in August of 2006. I don’t know why I didn’t do this sooner!
I reside in Jarrettsville, MD and the animal menagerie currently consists of my constant side kick, Crosby the golden puppy and two very large and loveable cats, Isaac and Beaches.
